OF

यह एक prepositional word (पूर्वसर्ग) है जो की दो अलग अलग शब्दों या वाक्यांशों के बीच सम्बन्ध बताता है। OF का प्रयोग possession यानि अधिकार व स्वामित्व दर्शाने के लिए भी किया जाता है। यदि आपको किसी चीज़ का निर्धारित स्थान, समय या origin बताना है, तब भी आप OF का प्रयोग कर सकते हैं।

Belonging to or relating to someone or something

That's the house of Salman Khan. (यही सलमान खान का घर है।)

They are colleagues of mine. (वे मेरे सहयोगी हैं।)

About or showing something or someone

Chandrakanta is a story of love and hate. (चंद्रकांता एक प्यार और नफरत की कहानी है।)

She posted a picture of her baby on twitter. (उसने ट्विटर पर अपने बच्चे की एक तस्वीर पोस्ट की।)

Used to show numbers, dates and ages

It was the 1st of June 2017. (वह 1 जून 2017 था।)

At the time of my marriage, I was only 20 years old. (अपनी शादी के समय, मैं केवल 20 साल का था।)

Used to show an amount

There are a lot of people. (वहां बहुत सारे लोग है।)

He ate a handful of nuts. (उसने मुट्ठी भर बादाम खाया।)

Containing or consisting of

Please give me a glass of water. (कृपया मुझे एक गिलास पानी दें।)

We were stopped by a group of mob. (हम भीड़ के एक समूह द्वारा रोके गए।)

Used to show a reason

My grandfather died of a heart illness. (मेरे दादा की दिल की बीमारी से मृत्यु हो गई।)

Used to show a characteristic

OFF

OFF का प्रयोग preposition या adverb दोनों तरह से किया जा सकता है। You can use this word in various situations but the underlying meaning remains the same that is some sort of separation, disconnect, absence, etc. आइए OFF के uses देखते हैं -

Not touching something or removed

His shoe just fell off. (उनके जूते अभी गिर गए।)

You can take off your hat. (आप अपनी टोपी हटा सकते हैं।)

Canceled

The wedding is off. (शादी रद्द है।)

They just called off the meeting. (उन्होंने अभी बैठक को रद्द कर दिया।)

Not operating or not at work

Turn off the light. (बत्ती बंद कर दो।)

Susan needs some time off. (सुसान को कुछ समय की छुट्टी की जरूरत है।)

Away from a place/ Far away

All the kids ran off as soon as the big man arrived. (जैसे ही बड़ा आदमी पहुंचा, सभी बच्चे भाग गए।)

I saw a car off in the distance. (मैंने दूर से एक कार को देखा।)

Near a place

The hotel was just off the highway. (होटल बस हाईवे से पास था।)

Less

Everything was 50% off. (सब कुछ 50% कम पर था।)
