able और capable शब्दों में बहुत बार confusion हो जाता है।
सामान्य तौर पर able का प्रयोग उन चीज़ों को व्यक्त करने के लिए होता है जो कोई व्यक्ति कर सकता है जबकि capable का प्रयोग किसी व्यक्ति की भविष्य की क्षमताओं के बारे में बात करने में किया जाता है। जैसे -
She’s able to sing a song perfectly after hearing it only once. (वह केवल एक बार सुनने के बाद पूरी तरह से एक गाना गए सकती हैं।) (she can currently do this)
She’s capable of becoming a successful singer. (उसमें एक सफल गायक बनने की क्षमता है।) (she has the possibility of doing this in the future)
able - if someone or something is able to do something, they have skills or qualities which make it possible for them to do it.
capable - if a person or thing is capable of doing something, they have the ability, capacity, or potential to do it.
Capable का प्रयोग पूरी तरह से शारीरिक (physical) context में हो सकता है जैसे -
He is capable of lifting 50 kgs. (वह 50 किलोग्राम उठाने में सक्षम हैं।)
परन्तु Able का प्रयोग इस तरह से नहीं किया जा सकता। इसे हमें इस तरह कहना पड़ेगा -
He found the box quite heavy but after some effort he was able to lift it. (उसे एक भारी बॉक्स मिला लेकिन कुछ प्रयास के बाद वह इसे उठा सका।)
इसके अतिरिक्त एक और मुख्य अंतर यही - preposition जो इनके बाद लगाया जाता है।
able के बाद हमेशा to का और capable के बाद of का प्रयोग होता है जैसे -
You must be able to speak English for this job.
You are capable of better work than this.
