ABOVE और OVER के बीच अक्सर बहुत confusion रहता क्योंकि दोनों का ही अर्थ कहीं न कहीं सामान प्रतीत होता है परन्तु ऐसा है नहीं।
Above का प्रयोग ज़्यादातर स्थिर चीज़ों की location बताने के लिए किया जाता है जबकि Over का प्रयोग चीज़ों की location व उनकी movement की direction, दोनों के बारे में बताता है।
ABOVE = से ऊपर यानी ऊपरी स्तर पर होना मगर सतह से संपर्क में आए बगैर (used when something is present or placed at a higher level than the other but without any physical contact between them)
• The aeroplane was flying above the clouds.(हवाई जहाज बादलों से ऊपर उड़ रहा था।)
• The picture hangs above my bed.(तस्वीर मेरे बिस्तर से ऊपर टंगी हुई है।)
OVER = के ऊपर यानी
a- ऊपरी स्तर पर व सतह से संपर्क में होना (used when you keep something on top of the other thing in a way that it physically touches or covers it)
• Put a plastic cover over the car.(गाड़ी के ऊपर एक प्लास्टिक कवर डाल दो।)
b- किसी चीज़ के ऊपर से होकर एक तरफ से दूसरी तरफ जाना (to cross something by going above it, usually from one side to another = move across)
• She jumped over the wall and ran from there.(वह दीवार के ऊपर से कूद कर वहां से भाग गई।)
