Comma किसी sentence के विभिन्न parts के बीच एक छोटा सा break देता है। सही से use करने पर यह वाक्य में words, phrases, और clauses को अलग कर या उनका group बना कर स्पष्ट meaning बताता है। जानें इसे use करने के basic rules -
1. हम comma का उसे list में चीज़ों को separate करने के लिए करते हैं जैसे -
Today morning we had idli, dosa, sambar, and chutney.
I have roses, marigolds, lotus and jasmin plants in my garden.
and से पहले लगाए गए comma को ‘serial comma’ कहते हैं और यह कई बार avoid किया जाता है।
2. Dependent clause जिससे sentence start होता हैं उसके बाद comma का use करते हैं जैसे -
When I was going to office, I met with an accident.
While I was eating, the cat scratched at the door.
Because her alarm clock was broken, she was late for class.
3. Main clause से non-restrictive या non-essential words और phrases को अलग करने के लिए भी comma का use करते हैं। ये वाक्य के शुरू में, बीच में या अंत में हो सकते हैं जैसे -
In my opinion, movie was more compelling than the book.
The movie, that we watched last night, was really nice.
We will not be attending the ceremony, however.
4. Multiple adjective जो एक ही noun के लिए use किये गए हो, उन्हें separate करने के लिए -
The movie was very nice, captivating and poignant.
5. बहुत बार introductory adverbs के बाद भी comma लगाते हैं जैसे -
Finally, I went for shopping .
Unsurprisingly, I met him again in the mall.
