यूँ तो अनेकों English words हैं जिन्हें गलत pronounce किया जाता है, लेकिन कुछ words बहुत ही common हैं और अपनी mispronunciation की वजह से popular भी हैं। कभी कभार native English speakers भी इन शब्दों का गलत उच्चारण कर बैठते हैं। जैसे -
OFTEN - औ-फन (not ऑफ्टन - इस शब्द में T - silent है।)
Meaning: Repetitive (अक्सर, बार-बार होना )
CHAOS - के-आस (not चा-ओस - इस शब्द में CH को क pronounce किया जाता है।)
Meaning: Complete disorder and confusion (अव्यवस्था/ गड़बड़ी)
EPITOME - एपि-टमी (not एपिटोम - इस शब्द में O - silent है।)
Meaning: A perfect example or summary (प्रतिमान/ सारांश)
RECEIPT - रिसीट (not रिसीप्ट - P is a silent letter)
Meaning: A written proof of something that you have received (आपके द्वारा प्राप्त की गई किसी चीज का एक लिखित प्रमाण / रसीद )
DATA - डेटा (not डाटा)
Meaning: A collection of probably facts and statistics (तथ्यों और आंकड़ों का एक संग्रह)
COLLEAGUE - कौ-लीग (not कालीग)
Meaning: A person who is your work associate (सहकर्मी/ सहकार्यकर्ता)
DETERMINE - डि-टर्मिन (not डी- टर-माईन)
Meaning: To decide or establish ( तय करना / निश्चित करना )
EITHER - ईदर (not आइदर)
Meaning: Used to indicate a choice between two things/ one or the other (दो में से कोई एक)
