अगणनीय संज्ञा (uncountable noun) को गणनीय (countable) संज्ञा में बदलने के लिए partitive का प्रयोग करते हैं। The word partitive is used to show that only a part of a whole or a piece of something is referred to. जैसे -

history - a piece/slice of history
hope - a glimmer/shred of hope
ice - a block/slab/thick sheet of ice
