Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday advocated the teaching of financial literacy in schools and colleges. Teaching financial literacy was very important and it has to start early, she said.Presently, it was being imparted outside the curriculum, the Finance Minister said during an interaction with students at A M Jain College here, on the topic "Transforming India Into The New Decade."You have institutions like the RBI, SEBI and also some national security depositories. Financial literacy lessons are online too, spread over a couple of weeks, if you want to take that. But it should be taught in schools and colleges as part of the curriculum," she said.To a question, Sitharaman replied that there's no harm in importing raw material or intermediary products for a growing economy, if the aim was to emerge as a manufacturing hub. "Ideally I would like to have the exports more than the imports because it gives earnings. But if imports is going to gradually improve your exports, why not. If imports are there, its good sometimes," she said.
केंद्रीय वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने शुक्रवार को स्कूलों और कॉलेजों में वित्तीय साक्षरता की शिक्षा देने की वकालत की। उन्होंने कहा कि वित्तीय साक्षरता सिखाना बहुत ज़रूरी है और इसकी शुरुआत जल्द से जल्द होनी चाहिए। वित्त मंत्री ने एएम जैन कॉलेज में "नए दशक में भारत का परिवर्तन" विषय पर छात्रों के साथ बातचीत के दौरान कहा कि वर्तमान में इसे पाठ्यक्रम के बाहर पढ़ाया जा रहा है। उन्होंने कहा, "आपके पास आरबीआई, सेबी और कुछ राष्ट्रीय प्रतिभूति भंडार जैसे संस्थान हैं। अगर आप चाहें तो वित्तीय साक्षरता की कक्षाएं ऑनलाइन भी उपलब्ध हैं, जो कुछ हफ़्तों तक चलती हैं। लेकिन इसे स्कूलों और कॉलेजों में पाठ्यक्रम के एक हिस्से के रूप में पढ़ाया जाना चाहिए।" एक सवाल के जवाब में, सीतारमण ने कहा कि अगर किसी बढ़ती अर्थव्यवस्था का उद्देश्य विनिर्माण केंद्र के रूप में उभरना है, तो उसके लिए कच्चे माल या अन्य उत्पादों का आयात करने में कोई बुराई नहीं है। उन्होंने कहा, "आदर्श रूप से मैं चाहूँगी कि आयात की तुलना में निर्यात ज़्यादा हो क्योंकि इससे आय होती है। लेकिन अगर आयात से धीरे-धीरे आपके निर्यात में सुधार होगा, तो क्यों नहीं? अगर आयात होता है, तो कभी-कभी यह अच्छा होता है।"
