Amid a decline in Covid cases in the country, India may soon reopen its doors for foreign tourists for the first time in one-and-a-half years, officials told PTI.
First five lakh foreign tourists will be issued visas free of cost, in an attempt to revive the tourism, hospitality and aviation sectors, badly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020 when a nationwide lockdown was announced.Top Union Home Ministry officials are deliberating with all stakeholders on the expected date and modalities for opening up of the country for foreign tourists.A formal announcement allowing foreign tourists to visit India may come within the next 10 days, an official from the Home Ministry said.The decision is being taken in view of the declining number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

अधिकारियों ने कहा कि देश में कोविड के मामलों में गिरावट के बीच भारत जल्द ही विदेशी पर्यटकों के लिए डेढ़ साल में पहली बार अपने दरवाजे खोल सकता है। मार्च 2020 से देशव्यापी तालाबंदी की घोषणा के बाद से COVID-19 महामारी से बुरी तरह प्रभावित पर्यटन, आतिथ्य और विमानन क्षेत्रों को पुनर्जीवित करने के प्रयास में पहले पांच लाख विदेशी पर्यटकों को मुफ्त वीजा जारी किया जाएगा। केंद्रीय गृह मंत्रालय के शीर्ष अधिकारी विदेशी पर्यटकों के लिए देश को खोलने के लिए अपेक्षित तारीख और तौर-तरीकों पर सभी हितधारकों के साथ विचार-विमर्श कर रहे हैं। गृह मंत्रालय के एक अधिकारी ने कहा कि विदेशी पर्यटकों को भारत आने की औपचारिक घोषणा अगले 10 दिनों के भीतर हो सकती है। देश में COVID-19 मामलों की घटती संख्या को देखते हुए यह निर्णय लिया जा रहा है।
