Khap Panchayat's verdict against marriage is illegal: Supreme Court- Namaste English

The Supreme Court today declared that any attempt by khap panchayats to revoke a marriage between consenting adults is illegal. The SC also said that any assembly which is intended to scuttle a marriage of two consenting adults is also illegal. With this judgment, the Supreme Court has filled the vacuum caused by the lack of a specific penal law against honour killings.

सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने आज घोषित किया कि खाप पंचायतों द्वारा दो बालिग़ व्यक्तियों की शादी को रद्द करने का कोई भी प्रयास गैरकानूनी है। SC ने यह भी कहा कि कोई भी सभा जो दो बालिग़ व्यक्तियों के विवाह को विफल करने का इरादा रखती है, वह सभा भी गैरकानूनी है। इस फैसले के साथ, सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने ऑनर किलिंग के खिलाफ एक विशिष्ट दंडात्मक कानून की कमी से होने वाले खालीपन को भर दिया है।
