SC wants rules for social media- Namaste English

The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Centre to frame guidelines to regulate social media and put in place a mechanism to track origin of fake news, rumours and objectionable material on social media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and YouTube. Pointing to social media being rampantly misused for fake news and rumours leading to mob violence and law & order problems, a bench of Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose said new media needs regulation and the Centre must step in to deal with the menace.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने मंगलवार को केंद्र से कहा कि वह सोशल मीडिया को विनियमित करने के लिए दिशा निर्देश को तैयार करे और फेसबुक, व्हाट्सएप, ट्विटर और यूट्यूब सहित सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफार्मों पर नकली समाचारों, अफवाहों और आपत्तिजनक सामग्री के स्रोत का पता करने के लिए एक व्यवस्था लेकर आये। सोशल मीडिया की ओर इशारा करते हुए, जिसका फर्जी खबरों और अफवाहों के लिए अनियंत्रित रूप से दुरुपयोग किया जा रहा है, और जो हिंसा और क़ानून एवं व्यवस्था की समस्या का कारण बन रही है, जस्टिस दीपक गुप्ता और अनिरुद्ध बोस की पीठ ने कहा कि नए मीडिया को नियमन की जरूरत है और केंद्र को खतरे से निपटने के लिए इसमें दखलंदाज़ी करनी चाहिए।
