With Harmanpreet Kaur and Co winning World Cup, cricketers in future will have female role modelsHarmanpreet Kaur, India’s first ICC Women’s World Cup-winning captain, began her journey playing with boys and has gone on record in the past saying she had little to no clue about women’s cricket apart from hearing the name Mithali Raj. The story goes that Shafali Verma, the player of the match in the final, had to cut her hair short so that she can replace her brother in a tournament where she’d go on to shine. Deepti Sharma, player of the tournament, got into cricket by following her brother around because she was intrigued. Pratika Rawal, who was on the dias with her teammates on a wheelchair after an unfortunate injury, was the first girl to enrol at Rohtak Road Gymkhana. Richa Ghosh, Renuka Singh Thakur and countless other cricketers in the country over the past couple of decades started their journeys playing alongside boys.  On Sunday night, as the Indian women’s cricket team became World Champions for the first time, the generations of cricketers who pick up the bat now, will have 16 female role models to look up to.

हरमनप्रीत कौर एंड कंपनी के विश्व कप जीतने के साथ, भविष्य में क्रिकेटरों के पास महिला रोल मॉडल होंगी। भारत की पहली ICC महिला विश्व कप विजेता कप्तान हरमनप्रीत कौर ने लड़कों के साथ खेलते हुए अपनी यात्रा शुरू की और अतीत में रिकॉर्ड पर कहा है कि उन्हें मिताली राज का नाम सुनने के अलावा महिला क्रिकेट के बारे में बहुत कम जानकारी थी। कहानी यह है कि फाइनल में प्लेयर ऑफ द मैच शैफाली वर्मा को अपने बाल छोटे कराने पड़े ताकि वह अपने भाई की जगह एक टूर्नामेंट में खेल सके जहां वह चमकेगी। प्लेयर ऑफ द टूर्नामेंट दीप्ति शर्मा अपने भाई के पीछे-पीछे क्रिकेट में आईं क्योंकि वह इसमें रुचि रखती थीं। प्रतीक रावल, जो दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण चोट के बाद व्हीलचेयर पर अपने साथियों के साथ मंच पर थीं, रोहतक रोड जिमखाना में दाखिला लेने वाली पहली लड़की थीं।  रविवार की रात, जब भारतीय महिला क्रिकेट टीम पहली बार विश्व चैंपियन बनी, तो अब बल्लेबाजी करने वाली क्रिकेटरों की पीढ़ियों के पास 16 महिला रोल मॉडल होंगी।
