'none' एक versatile शब्द है अर्थात इसका प्रयोग plural (not any - कोई नहीं) और singular (not a single one - कोई भी नहीं) दोनों ही अर्थों में किया जा सकता है।
जब None का प्रयोग अकेले किया जाता है तो सामान्यतः तब None के साथ singular verb का प्रयोग करते हैं जैसे - None likes a man who always fights.
जबकि जब None के बाद plural noun या pronoun का प्रयोग किया जाता है तो verb भी plural होती है जैसे -
1. None of them are playing.
2. None of us are going to the party.
None के बाद of का प्रयोग होता है तो सदैव of (preposition) के बाद आने वाले noun को ध्यान से देखना चाहिए। यदि noun - singular है तो singular verb का प्रयोग होगा और यदि noun - plural है तो अधिकांश समय plural verb का प्रयोग होगा (Most of the time, but not always) जैसे -
1. None of the pie was eaten.
None of the children were hungry.
[यहाँ पर None of the children was hungry. कहना भी गलत नहीं होगा। (as in, “not a single one”)]
