आज हम सभी अपना 69th गणतंत्र दिवस मना रहे हैं। ये तो सभी जानते हैं कि English में गणतंत्र दिवस को Republic Day कहते हैं पर आग हम Republic शब्द की उत्त्पति के विषय में जानेंगे -
यह शब्द French शब्द république, Latin शब्द respublica से लिया गया है (res ‘entity, concern’ + publicus ‘of the people, public’) माना जाता है कि इसका पहली बार प्रयोग 16 वीं शताब्दी के अंत में लगभग 1596 में हुआ था।
