Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday gave a dire warning, saying that the city was fast running out of beds, oxygen and the life-saving drug Remdesivir as it recorded an unprecedented 24,000 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours.
The positivity rate had reached a huge 24 per cent - meaning one in four of all people being tested were coming out positive, he said.
"Any health infrastructure has limitations. The government is trying its best to increase the number of beds. I hope that we will be able to add 6,000 more beds in the next two to four days," he said.
"The situation is very serious and worrisome," Mr Kejriwal said. "Cases have gone up really fast. That is why we are facing shortages even though everything seemed under control until a few days ago. But the speed at which this corona is growing, no one knows where its peak will be," he added.

दिल्ली के मुख्यमंत्री अरविंद केजरीवाल (Arvind Kejriwal) ने कहा कि पिछले 24 घंटे में दिल्ली में लगभग 24000 कोरोना के केस आए. यह अब तक के सबसे ज़्यादा केस हैं. इससे पहले 19,500 थे अब 24 हजार हो गए. पॉजिटिविटी रेट 24 फ़ीसदी से ज्यादा हो गया है. स्थिति काफी गंभीर और चिंताजनक है. दिल्ली में ऑक्सीजन की कमी है, Remdesivir की कमी है. मामले बहुत ज्यादा तेजी से बढ़ रहे हैं इस वजह से इन सारी चीजों की कमी हो रही है, जबकि कुछ दिन पहले तक हमें लग रहा था कि स्थिति ठीक है।
केजरीवाल ने कहा कि किसी भी हेल्थ इंफस्ट्रक्चर की सीमाएं हैं. बेड बहुत तेजी के साथ भर रहे हैं. 'आप' की सरकार पूरी कोशिश कर रही है कि बेड की संख्या और ज्यादा बढ़ाई जाए. पिछले कुछ दिनों में कई बार बेड की संख्या बढ़ाई गई और बेड की कमी नहीं होने दी गई. आने वाले कुछ दिनों में 6000 बेड और बढ़ाने के लिए और कदम उठा रहे हैं।
श्री केजरीवाल ने कहा, 'स्थिति बहुत गंभीर और चिंताजनक है।"मामले वास्तव में तेजी से बढ़ गए हैं । यही कारण है कि हम कमी का सामना कर रहे है भले ही सब कुछ कुछ दिन पहले तक नियंत्रण में लग रहा था ।उन्होंने कहा कि लेकिन जिस गति से यह कोरोना बढ़ रहा है, कोई नहीं जानता कि उसका शिखर कहां होगा ।
