Railway property worth Rs 80 crore was damaged in protests against the citizenship law and compensation for the same will be recovered from those involved in arson and violence, the Chairman of the Railway Board said today. Of Rs 80 crore, Rs 70 crore worth of property damaged was of the Kolkata-headquartered Eastern Railways. Earlier this month five empty trains were set on fire at a railway station in Bengal's Murshidabad district, which comes under Eastern Railway. Hundreds of people also partially burnt down.

रेलवे बोर्ड के अध्यक्ष ने आज कहा कि नागरिकता कानून के विरोध में 80 करोड़ रुपये की रेलवे संपत्ति को नुकसान पहुंचाया गया और आगजनी और हिंसा में शामिल लोगों से मुआवज़े की वसूली की जाएगी। 80 करोड़ रुपये में से 70 करोड़ रुपये की संपत्ति का नुकसान कोलकाता-मुख्यालय वाले पूर्वी रेलवे का था। इस महीने की शुरुआत में बंगाल के मुर्शिदाबाद जिले में एक रेलवे स्टेशन पर पांच खाली गाड़ियों में आग लगा दी गई थी, जो पूर्वी रेलवे के अंतर्गत आता है। सैकड़ों लोग आंशिक रूप से जल भी गए।
