The government has decided to call for applications from eligible candidates for the post of chairman and members of anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal, officials said. A process in this regard has been initiated and an advertisement calling the applications from the eligible candidates is likely to be issued soon, they said. The matter related to the appointment of Lokpal was discussed during a meeting of eight-member search committee, headed by former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, Tuesday.  Tuesday's meeting was held days after the Supreme Court had set a February-end deadline for the search committee to send a panel of names who could be considered for the appointment as chairman and members of Lokpal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led selection committee.

अधिकारियों ने कहा कि सरकार ने भ्रष्टाचार-विरोधी लोकपाल के अध्यक्ष और सदस्यों के पद के लिए योग्य उम्मीदवारों से आवेदन मांगे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि इस संबंध में एक प्रक्रिया शुरू की गई है और जल्द ही योग्य उम्मीदवारों से आवेदन मांगे जाने वाले विज्ञापन जारी किए जाने की संभावना है। लोकपाल की नियुक्ति से संबंधित मामले पर सुप्रीम कोर्ट की पूर्व न्यायाधीश रंजना प्रकाश देसाई की अध्यक्षता में आठ सदस्यीय सर्च समिति की बैठक के दौरान चर्चा हुई। सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी की अगुवाई वाली चयन समिति द्वारा लोकपाल के अध्यक्ष और सदस्यों के रूप में नियुक्ति के लिए विचार किए जाने वाले नामों का पैनल भेजने के लिए सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने सर्च कमेटी के लिए फरवरी-अंत की समय सीमा तय करने के कुछ दिनों बाद मंगलवार की बैठक आयोजित की थी।
