Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ravish Kumar said that the decision to print lotus on the new Indian passport has been taken for security reasons. He said that the lotus is the national flower of India and that is why the Ministry of External Affairs has started printing it to deal with fake passports. This explanation of Ravish Kumar came after some members of opposition parties asked about it in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Congress leader MK Raghavan on Wednesday raised the issue of lotus printing on the Indian passport in the Lok Sabha during zero hour and said that since it is also an election symbol of the BJP, it is another step towards 'saffronisation' (propagation of Hinduism).
