The Supreme Court on Monday quashed an amendment passed in 2016 by the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh in which former CMs were allowed to retain government accommodation for life. The court said that such laws are “unconstitutional, arbitrary and discriminatory” and contravene the idea of equality. Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati are among the six former chief ministers who will now have to vacate their palatial government house.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने सोमवार को उत्तर प्रदेश में समाजवादी पार्टी सरकार द्वारा 2016 में पारित किए एक संशोधन को रद्द कर दिया जिसमे पूर्व मुख्यमंत्रियों को आजीवन सरकारी आवास बनाए रखने की अनुमति दी गयी थी। अदालत ने कहा कि ऐसे कानून "असंवैधानिक, मनमाने व पक्षपाती" हैं और समानता के सिद्धांत की अवहेलना करते हैं। मुलायम सिंह यादव, अखिलेश यादव और मायावती उन छह पूर्व मुख्यमंत्रियों में शामिल हैं, जिन्हें अब अपना-अपना आलीशान सरकारी घर खाली करना होगा।
