Having failed to muster enough support in the Rajya Sabha to pass legislation banning triple talaq in the winter session, the government is now mulling to resort to the ordinance route to criminalise it. According to sources, the government might convene a joint session of Parliament during the budget session to get the legislation passed without introducing it to the Rajya Sabha. If passed, this legislation will make triple talaq a punishable and non-bailable offence.
