Time has come for parliament to keep criminals away by bringing law, the Supreme Court said today on petitions asking that lawmakers facing criminal charges be barred from contesting elections or be disqualified after conviction."We are not in a position to add disqualification of candidates on filing of chargesheet in criminal cases," Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra said, reading out the order. Leaving it to parliament to stop criminals from contesting polls, the court said: "National interest demands parliament enacts such legislation and the country awaits such a legislation." The top court responded to petitions seeking disqualification of lawmakers even before their conviction in criminal cases to curb "criminalization of politics" in the country.

समय आ गया है कि संसद कानून ला कर अपराधियों को दूर रखें, सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने आज याचिकाओं पर कहा कि आपराधिक आरोपों का सामना करने वाले सांसदों को चुनाव लड़ने से रोका जाये या अपराध साबित होने के बाद अयोग्य घोषित किया जाये। "हम आपराधिक मामलों में आरोपपत्र दाखिल करते हुए उम्मीदवारों की अयोग्यता को जोड़ने की स्थिति में नहीं हैं, "भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश दीपक मिश्रा ने आदेश पढ़ते हुए कहा। अपराधियों को चुनाव लड़ने से रोकने के लिए इसे संसद पर छोड़ते हुए अदालत ने कहा: "राष्ट्रीय हित संसद से इसकी मांग करता है कि वह इस तरह के कानून को लागू करें और देश ऐसे कानून का इंतजार कर रहा है।" शीर्ष अदालत ने देश में राजनीति के अपराधीकरण को रोकने के लिए आपराधिक मामलों में सांसदों के अपराध साबित होने से पहले ही उनकी अयोग्यता की मांग करने वाली याचिकाओं का जवाब दिया।
