The Interpol issued a Red Corner Notice (RCN) against diamond merchant Mehul Choksi, six months after the CBI sent a request to the international organisation in connection with the Punjab National Bank fraud case. “The Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice against Mehul Choksi on the request of the CBI,” CBI spokesperson Abhishek Dayal said. The Interpol has already issued an RCN against Choksi’s nephew Nirav Modi and a few other associates. Earlier, Choksi had challenged the CBI’s request, citing the poor condition of Indian jails, which he said violated “human rights conditions”. A five-member Interpol committee court, called the Commission for Control of Files, was set up to decide on CBI’s request. Choksi is currently residing in Antigua and Barbuda after obtaining citizenship earlier this year.

इंटरपोल ने पंजाब नेशनल बैंक धोखाधड़ी के संबंध में सीबीआई द्वारा अंतरराष्ट्रीय संगठन को अनुरोध भेजे जाने के 6 महीने बाद हीरा व्यापारी मेहुल चोकसी के खिलाफ एक रेड कॉर्नर नोटिस (आरसीएन) जारी किया है। सीबीआई के प्रवक्ता अभिषेक दयाल ने कहा, "इंटरपोल ने सीबीआई के अनुरोध पर मेहुल चोकसी के खिलाफ रेड  कॉर्नर नोटिस जारी किया है।" इंटरपोल ने चोकसी के भतीजे नीरव मोदी और कुछ अन्य सहयोगियों के खिलाफ पहले ही आरसीएन जारी कर दिया है। इससे पहले, चोकसी ने भारतीय जेलों की खराब स्थिति का हवाला देते हुए सीबीआई के अनुरोध को चुनौती दी थी, जिस पर उसने कहा की वे "मानवाधिकार की शर्तों" का उल्लंघन करती हैं। सीबीआई के अनुरोध पर फैसला करने के लिए आयोग की कमीशन फॉर कंट्रोल ऑफ़ फाइल्स नामक एक पांच सदस्यीय इंटरपोल कमेटी अदालत की स्थापना की गई थी। चोकसी वर्तमान में इस साल की शुरुआत में नागरिकता प्राप्त करने के बाद एंटीगुआ और बारबूडा में रह रहा है।
