Irom Sharmila aka 'Iron Lady' has filed an application to marry her British partner Desmond Coutinho. Expressing her despair, she said, "I fought against the oppressive AFSPA for 16 long years but people rejected me in the polls". Sharmila had ended her 16-year-long hunger strike to fight the political battle. dejected over her debacle in the Manipur Assembly Elections 2017, Sharmila doesn’t want to return to her home state, Manipur.

इरॉम शर्मिला उर्फ 'आयरन लेडी' ने अपने ब्रिटिश साथी डेसमंड कूंटीन्हो से शादी करने के लिए आवेदन दायर कर दिया है। अपनी निराशा को व्यक्त करते हुए उन्होंने  कहा, "मैंने अत्याचारी आफ्सपा के खिलाफ 16 साल तक लड़ाई की, लेकिन लोगों ने मुझे चुनाव में अस्वीकार कर दिया"। शर्मिला ने राजनीतिक लड़ाई लड़ने के लिए अपनी 16 साल पुरानी भूख हड़ताल समाप्त कर दी थी। मणिपुर विधानसभा चुनाव 2017 में अपनी पराजय से उदास शर्मीला अपने गृह राज्य, मणिपुर में वापस नहीं जाना चाहती।
