A new law has been proposed by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of Italy party, under which Italians who use English and other foreign words in official communication can be fined up to 100,000 euros (Rs 82,46,550). According to a report in CN, the bill was introduced by Fabio Rampelli, who is a member of the Lower Chamber, and supported by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. However, all foreign languages have been excluded under the new law. But the use of "Anglomania" or English words has been specifically targeted. The draft claims that both these languages condemn the Italian language. It added that this has been made worse by the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union, known as Brexit. Anyone holding a position in public administration will need "written and oral knowledge as well as mastery of the Italian language", according to the bill.
