The government on Saturday said a person eligible for 'Aadhaar' can enroll using 'Iris' scan in case fingerprints are not available. This statement comes after Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar confirmed the nomination of Josimol P Jose, a woman from Kerala. The woman could not enroll for Aadhaar because she did not have fingers on her hands. According to the statement, a team from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) met Jose, a resident of Kumarakam in Kottayam district of Kerala, at his home on the same day and generated his Aadhaar number. Chandrashekhar said that all Aadhaar Seva Kendras have been asked to issue Aadhaar to people with blurred fingerprints or other similar disabilities by taking alternative biometrics. According to the statement, “A person who is eligible for Aadhaar but is unable to provide fingerprints can enroll using the iris scan only. Similarly, an eligible person whose iris could not be taken for any reason can enroll using his fingerprint only.”

सरकार ने शनिवार को कहा कि ‘आधार' के लिए पात्र व्यक्ति उंगलियों के निशान उपलब्ध नहीं होने की स्थिति में ‘आईरिस' स्कैन का उपयोग करके नामांकन कर सकता है. यह बयान इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स और आईटी राज्य मंत्री राजीव चंद्रशेखर द्वारा केरल में एक महिला जोसीमोल पी जोस के नामांकन को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए आया है. महिला हाथ की उंगलियां नहीं होने के कारण आधार के लिए नामांकन नहीं कर सकी थी. बयान के अनुसार, भारतीय विशिष्ट पहचान प्राधिकरण (यूआईडीएआई) की एक टीम ने उसी दिन केरल के कोट्टायम जिले के कुमारकम में रहने वाली जोस से उसके घर पर मुलाकात की और उसका आधार नंबर तैयार किया. चंद्रशेखर ने कहा कि सभी आधार सेवा केंद्रों से कहा गया है कि वैकल्पिक बायोमेट्रिक्स लेकर धुंधली उंगलियों के निशान या इसी तरह की दिव्यांगता वाले अन्य लोगों को आधार जारी किया जाना चाहिए. बयान के अनुसार, “एक व्यक्ति जो आधार के लिए पात्र है, लेकिन उंगलियों के निशान देने में असमर्थ है, वह केवल आईरिस स्कैन का उपयोग करके नामांकन कर सकता है. इसी प्रकार, एक पात्र व्यक्ति जिसकी आंखों की पुतली किसी भी कारण से नहीं ली जा सकी है, वह केवल अपने फिंगरप्रिंट का उपयोग करके नामांकन कर सकता है.”
