New York's iconic Flatiron Building, famous for its slim, triangular shape, has been sold at a court-ordered auction for $190 million (Rs 1563 crore). Bidding on the 22-story skyscraper, which was built in 1902, started at $50 million and sold for nearly four times the opening price during the auction. "It's been a dream of mine since I was 14," said Jacob Garlick, managing partner of the Abraham Trust Investment Fund, who placed the highest bid at the auction.
However, Jacob Garlick has not yet revealed what he plans to do with the historic building. The Flatiron, which spans Fifth Avenue, Broadway and East 22nd Street in Manhattan, has been vacant since 2019, when its last tenant, McMillian Publishers, vacated. Prior to the auction, the building was owned by a consortium of real estate companies who disagreed about its renovation.
