The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed various states to make 'further efforts' to improve air quality and 'fully utilize' the funds received under the National Clean Air Program (NCAP) and the 15th Finance Commission. While issuing this order on December 5, the tribunal directed the concerned states to file further action report within eight weeks. A bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Srivastava referred to the cases filed by Bihar (Patna, Purnia and Rajgir), Uttar Pradesh (Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida), Punjab (Bathinda), Haryana (Faridabad, Manesar, Rohtak and Bhiwadi), Rajasthan (Tonk) and Meghalaya. (Birnihat) mentioned the deteriorating air quality in various cities from November 22 to December 4. A bench of Justice Srivastava, judicial member Justice Sudhir Aggarwal and expert member A Senthil Vel said that in some cities the AQI is 'severe' and 'very poor' while in some other cities it ranges from 'moderate' to 'severe', 'poor' and Ranged between 'very bad'.

राष्ट्रीय हरित अधिकरण (एनजीटी) ने विभिन्न राज्यों को वायु की गुणवत्ता सुधारने के लिए ‘और प्रयास' करने तथा राष्ट्रीय स्वच्छ वायु कार्यक्रम (एनसीएपी) और 15 वें वित्त आयोग के तहत मिली धनराशि का ‘पूर्ण उपयोग' करने का निर्देश दिया है. अधिकरण ने पांच दिसंबर को यह आदेश जारी करते हुए संबंधित राज्यों को आठ हफ्ते के अंदर आगे की कार्रवाई रिपोर्ट भी दाखिल करने का निर्देश दिया. एनजीटी अध्यक्ष न्यायमूर्ति प्रकाश श्रीवास्तव की पीठ ने बिहार (पटना, पूर्णिया और राजगीर), उत्तर प्रदेश (गाजियाबाद, नोएडा एवं ग्रेटर नोएडा), पंजाब (बठिंडा), हरियाणा (फरीदाबाद , मानेसर, रोहतक और भिवाड़ी), राजस्थान (टोंक) और मेघालय (बिरनीहाट) में 22 नवंबर से चार दिसंबर तक विभिन्न शहरों में बिगड़ती वायु गुणवत्ता का जिक्र किया. न्यायमूर्ति श्रीवास्तव, न्यायिक सदस्य न्यायमूर्ति सुधीर अग्रवाल और विशेषज्ञ सदस्य ए सेंथिल वेल की पीठ ने कहा कि कुछ शहरों में एक्यूआई ‘गंभीर' एवं ‘बहुत खराब' हैं जबकि कुछ अन्य शहरों में यह ‘मध्यम' से ‘गंभीर', ‘खराब' और ‘बहुत खराब' के बीच रहा.
