National Democratic Alliance nominee Om Birla was on Wednesday unanimously elected as the speaker of the Lok Sabha with several parties moving a motion in his support. There was no other candidate in the fray and the motion moved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to choose the Kota-Bundi MP as speaker was adopted by a voice vote. Since the motion moved by Modi was adopted, the other motions became infructuous. Mr. Birla was declared as speaker by pro-tem Speaker Virendra Kumar. Mr. Modi led the new speaker to the presiding officer’s chair.

राष्ट्रीय जनतांत्रिक गठबंधन के उम्मीदवार ओम बिड़ला बुधवार को सर्वसम्मति से लोकसभा के अध्यक्ष के रूप में चुने गए, जिसमें कई दलों ने उनके समर्थन में प्रस्ताव रखा था। प्रतिस्पर्धा में कोई दूसरा उम्मीदवार नहीं था और प्रधान मंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी द्वारा कोटा-बूंदी के सांसद को स्पीकर  के रुप में चुनने के लिए प्रस्ताव पारित किया गया जिसे ध्वनि मत द्वारा अपना लिया गया।  चूंकि, मोदी द्वारा पारित प्रस्ताव अपना लिया गया था इसलिए अन्य प्रस्ताव निष्फल हो गये। श्री बिड़ला को प्रो-टेम स्पीकर वीरेंद्र कुमार ने स्पीकर के रूप में घोषित किया। श्री मोदी ने पीठासीन अधिकारी की कुर्सी पर नए स्पीकर का नेतृत्व किया।
