Pataakha is Vishal Bhardwaj’s adaptation of a short story by Charan Singh Pathik. This film is about two sisters, Champa and Genda. Bhardwaj turns these warring sisters into a metaphor for India and Pakistan, countries locked in an endless cycle of sniping. It is an unsubtle analogy but crudely effective, much like a street-play. The narrator is no such sad figure, whose role is played with roguish sleaziness by Sunil Grover in this movie. Overall, Pataakha is a well-crafted adaptation of Charan Singh Pathik’s short story Do Behnein, which ends with something that’s quite clearly wishful thinking.

पटाखा विशाल भारद्वाज की चरन सिंह पथिक की एक छोटी सी कहानी का रूपांतरण है। यह फिल्म दो बहनों चम्पा और गेंदा के बारे में है। भारद्वाज ने इन परस्पर विरोधी बहनों को भारत और पाकिस्तान के एक रूपक में बदल दिया है, ऐसे दो देश जो कटाव के कभी ख़त्म न होने वाले चक्र में बंद हो गये हैं। यह एक असंतुलित समानता है, लेकिन एक स्ट्रीट प्ले की तरह अनगढ़ रूप से प्रभावी है। कथाकार ऐसा कोई दुखद व्यक्ति नहीं है, जिसका किरदार इस फिल्म में शातिर फूहड़पन के साथ सुनील ग्रोवर द्वारा निभाया गया है। कुल मिलाकर, पटाखा चरन सिंह पथिक की लघु कहानी दो बहनें का एक अच्छी तरह से तैयार किया गया रूपांतरण है, जो कुछ ऐसे के साथ ख़त्म होती है जो की स्पष्ट रूप से इच्छापूर्ण सोच है।
