President Droupadi Murmu today conferred Bharat Ratna on five eminent personalities, including two former Prime Ministers, Chaudhary Charan Singh and PV Narasimha Rao.
Former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur and agronomist MS Swaminathan were also conferred with the country's highest civilian award. बिहार के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री कर्पूरी ठाकुर और कृषि वैज्ञानिक एमएस स्वामीनाथन को भी देश के सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान से सम्मानित किया गया। केंद्र सरकार ने इस साल भारत रत्न के लिए पांच नामों की घोषणा की, जिसमें भाजपा नेता लालकृष्ण आडवाणी भी शामिल हैं। सूत्रों ने बताया कि राष्ट्रपति मुर्मू वरिष्ठ भाजपा नेता लालकृष्ण आडवाणी के आवास पर जाएंगे और उन्हें प्रतिष्ठित पुरस्कार प्रदान करेंगे। उन्होंने कहा कि वरिष्ठ भाजपा नेता आडवाणी के खराब स्वास्थ्य को देखते हुए यह फैसला किया गया है। पूर्व पीएम चरण सिंह का पुरस्कार उनके पोते जयंत सिंह ने प्राप्त किया और पीवी नरसिम्हा राव का पुरस्कार उनके बेटे पीवी प्रभाकर राव ने प्राप्त किया। एमएस स्वामीनाथन की बेटी नित्या राव ने अपने पिता के लिए पुरस्कार प्राप्त किया और कर्पूरी ठाकुर का पुरस्कार उनके बेटे राम नाथ ठाकुर ने प्राप्त किया।
