On Saturday, the price of onion in Bengaluru reached Rs 200 per kg. An official said on Saturday that onion prices are increasing due to short supply in the market. State Agricultural Marketing Officer Siddangaiya told IANS, "The price of onion is Rs.200 per kg in some retail shops in Bangalore. Its wholesale rate is between Rs.5,500 to Rs.14,000 per quintal. ”Onion prices are skyrocketing and onion shortage is expected to last until mid-January. India requires 15 million metric tons of onions annually. Karnataka produces 20.19 lakh metric tonnes of onions. If we see the loss after production and harvesting, then this time around 50% of onion has been destroyed. Meanwhile, the Food and Civil Supplies Department of Karnataka has started raids to crack down on hoarders.

बेंगलुरु में शनिवार को प्याज की कीमत 200 रुपये प्रति किलो ग्राम तक पहुंच गई। एक अधिकारी ने शनिवार को कहा कि बाजार में कम आपूर्ति के कारण प्याज के दामों में बढ़ोतरी होती जा रही है। राज्य कृषि विपणन अधिकारी सिद्दांगैया ने आईएएनएस को बताया, “प्याज की कीमत  बेंगलुरु की कुछ खुदरा दुकानों में 200 रुपये प्रति कि. ग्रा. के स्तर को छू गई है। इसकी थोक दर 5,500 रुपये से 14,000 रुपये प्रति क्विंटल के बीच है।” प्याज की कीमतें आसमान छू रही हैं और प्याज की कमी जनवरी के बीच तक रहने की उम्मीद है। भारत को वार्षिक 150 लाख मीट्रिक टन प्याज की आवश्यकता है। कर्नाटक में 20.19 लाख मीट्रिक टन प्याज का उत्पादन होता है। उत्पादन व फसल पकने के बाद हुए नुकसान को देखा जाए तो इस बार लगभग 50 फीसदी प्याज बबार्द हो गया है। इस बीच कर्नाटक के खाद्य एवं नागरिक आपूर्ति विभाग ने जमाखोरों पर नकेल कसने के लिए छापेमारी शुरू कर दी है।
