The Supreme Court today asked the Madras High Court to decide on its interim ban on Chinese-owned TikTok video app by Wednesday. The ban on the video app, which claims to have more than 54 million active users in India, will be lifted if the high court fails to give its decision on a plea filed by Chinese company Bytedance, which owns TikTok, the top court has said. Bytedance, in its petition, told the top court that the interim order was passed without hearing them. Challenging the high court order on TikTok, Bytedance had told the Supreme Court that such restrictions will "hurt free speech".

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने आज मद्रास उच्च न्यायालय से कहा कि वह बुधवार तक चीनी स्वामित्व वाले टिकटोक वीडियो ऐप पर अपने अंतरिम प्रतिबंध पर फैसला करे। शीर्ष अदालत ने कहा है कि भारत में 54 मिलियन से अधिक सक्रिय उपयोगकर्ताओं का दावा करने वाले वीडियो ऐप पर प्रतिबंध हटा दिया जाएगा, अगर उच्च न्यायालय चीनी कंपनी बायेटेडैंस द्वारा दायर याचिका पर अपना निर्णय देने में विफल रहता है। बायेटेडैंस ने अपनी याचिका में शीर्ष अदालत से कहा कि उनकी सुनवाई किए बिना अंतरिम आदेश पारित किया गया। टिकटोक पर उच्च न्यायालय के आदेश को चुनौती देते हुए, बायेटेडैंस ने सर्वोच्च न्यायालय को बताया था कि इस तरह के प्रतिबंध "फ्री स्पीच को नुकसान पहुंचाएंगे"।
