SC ruled Aadhaar needed for pan, not for bank a/c

A five-judge bench of the Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the constitutional validity of Aadhaar, Saying  sufficient security measures are taken to protect data and it is difficult to launch surveillance on citizens on the basis of Aadhaar. But the top court ruled that the order to link all mobile phone connections to Aadhaar was ‘unconstitutional’, but maintained that it was mandatory for filing income tax returns. The court also held that there was no need to link bank accounts with the unique identification number.
