Women of all ages must be allowed in Kerala's renowned Sabarimala temple, the Supreme Court ordered today, ending ban on the entry of women between 10 and 50 years. "The practice of age restriction on women entry to Sabrimala temple can't be treated as an essential religious practice," said the court in a majority four-one judgement. Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra said “devotion cannot be subjected to discrimination and patriarchal notion cannot be allowed to trump equality in devotion, Religion cannot be the cover to deny women right to worship.”

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने आज 10 से 50 वर्ष के बीच महिलाओं के प्रवेश पर प्रतिबंध को समाप्त करते हुए आदेश दिया कि केरल के प्रसिद्ध सबरीमाला मंदिर में सभी उम्र की महिलाओं को अनुमति दी जानी चाहिए। अदालत ने 4:1 के बहुमत फैसले में कहा, "सबरीमाला मंदिर में महिलाओं के प्रवेश पर आयु प्रतिबंध की प्रथा एक आवश्यक धार्मिक प्रथा  के रूप में नहीं मानी जा सकती है।" भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश दीपक मिश्रा ने कहा, "भक्ति भेदभाव के अधीन नहीं हो सकती है और पितृसत्तात्मक धारणा को भक्ति में समानता को कम करने की अनुमति नहीं दी जा सकती है, धर्म महिलाओं को पूजा करने के अधिकार से मना करने का आवरण नहीं हो सकता है।"
