By giving CBI a huge setback, the Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain the appeal filed by the agency against the high court’s 2005 verdict that shut the politically-sensitive Bofors case. A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said it wasn’t convinced with the reasons given by the petitioner Ajay Agrawal to explain why he had approached the court with his plea 12 years later. The Delhi high court had quashed all charges against the three Hinduja brothers in 2005 and castigated the CBI for its handling of the case.

सीबीआई को भारी झटका देते हुए, सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने शुक्रवार को उच्च न्यायालय के 2005 के फैसले जिसने राजनीतिक रूप से संवेदनशील बोफोर्स केस को बंद कर दिया था, के खिलाफ एजेंसी द्वारा दायर अपील पर विचार करने से इंकार कर दिया। मुख्य न्यायाधीश रंजन गोगोई की अध्यक्षता वाली पीठ ने कहा कि वे याचिकाकर्ता अजय अग्रवाल द्वारा दिए गये कारणों से आश्वत नहीं थे कि वह क्यों 12 साल बाद अपनी याचिका के साथ अदालत के पास आए।दिल्ली उच्च न्यायालय ने 2005 में तीन हिंदुजा भाइयों के खिलाफ सभी आरोपों को रद्द कर दिया था और मामले को संभालने के लिए सीबीआई को दंडित किया था।
