The Supreme Court on Thursday overturned a Kerala High Court order of annulling the marriage of Hadiya aka Akhila Ashokan to Shafin Jahan and reinstated their nikaah. Justice Chandrachud said, “Marriage and plurality are the fundamental core of our culture. Plurality in India should be zealously guarded.” He added that marriage between two consenting adults is valid even if a reasonable number of persons happen to disagree with the wedlock.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने गुरुवार को केरल हाई कोर्ट द्वारा शफी जहां के साथ  हादिया उर्फ अखिला अशोकन के निकाह को रद्द करने के फैसले को पलट कर उनके निकाह को फिर से बहाल कर दिया। न्यायधीश चंद्रचूड ने कहा, "विवाह और अनेकता हमारी संस्कृति का मूलभूत सिद्धांत है भारत में अनेकता की रक्षा उत्साहपूरक की जानी चाहिए।" उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि दो सहमतिजनक वयस्कों के बीच की शादी मान्य है, भले ही एक उचित संख्या में लोग इस विवाह के साथ असहमत हो।
