In a landmark judgment, the SC has struck down triple talaq calling it unconstitutional and against the basic tenets of Quran.Three out of five judges said that triple talaq violates the fundamental right of Muslim women as they are subjected to arbitrary irrevocable divorce without any chance of reconciliation. Triple talaq is considered ‘sinful’ but permissible in Islamic law.
