Jalaluddin Haqqani, leader of one of the most powerful and dreaded groups in the Afghan insurgency - Haqqani Network, died after a prolonged illness, the Taliban announced on Tuesday. Haqqani network became infamous for fighting American troops after revolting against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan in the 1980s with their help. Jalaluddin had entrusted the operational leadership of the network some years ago to his son Sirajuddin Haqqani.
