In a much-awaited development, United Kingdom Home Minister has approved extradition of fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi to India. The information was shared by the officials of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).



"The UK Home Minister has approved the extradition request of Nirav Modi," a CBI source related to the probe told news agency IANS.



he approval to extradite Nirav Modi comes months after a UK's Westminster court accepted the prima facie evidence against absconding businessman in connection with Rs 13,000 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) loan scam and issued an order for his extradition.



The approval was given after findings of the Westminster court were sent to the UK Home Department as per which it cleared the extradition.

जांच से जुड़े सीबीआई सूत्र ने समाचार एजेंसी आईएएनएस को बताया, "ब्रिटेन के गृह मंत्री ने नीरव मोदी के प्रत्यर्पण अनुरोध को मंजूरी दे दी है।उन्होंने नीरव मोदी के प्रत्यर्पण की मंजूरी ब्रिटेन की वेस्टमिंस्टर अदालत द्वारा १३,००० करोड़ रुपये के पंजाब नेशनल बैंक (पीएनबी) ऋण घोटाले के मामले में फरार कारोबारी के खिलाफ प्रथम दृष्टया (prima facie) सबूत स्वीकार करने और उसके प्रत्यर्पण के लिए आदेश जारी करने के महीनों दी।



प्रत्यर्पण को मंजूरी, वेस्टमिंस्टर अदालत के निष्कर्षों को ब्रिटेन के गृह विभाग को भेजे जाने के बाद मंजूरी दी गई थी ।
