Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor Viral Acharya has resigned from his position six months before the end of his term, according to sources in the central bank. Mr. Acharya, who was in charge of the monetary policy department of the RBI, reportedly resigned due to “personal reasons”. His departure is significant as it comes just a little more than six months after the resignation of Urjit Patel from the post of RBI Governor. Mr. Acharya had in October last year created a controversy by strongly alluding to the encroachment on autonomy of the central bank by the government.

भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक के डिप्टी गवर्नर विरल आचार्य ने केंद्रीय बैंक के सूत्रों के अनुसार, अपने कार्यकाल की समाप्ति से छह महीने पहले अपने पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया है। श्री आचार्य, जो आरबीआई के मौद्रिक नीति विभाग के प्रभारी थे, ने कथित तौर पर "व्यक्तिगत कारणों" के कारण इस्तीफा दे दिया। आरबीआई गवर्नर के पद से उर्जित पटेल के इस्तीफे के ठीक छह महीने बाद उनकी विदाई महत्वपूर्ण है। श्री आचार्य ने पिछले साल अक्टूबर में सरकार द्वारा केंद्रीय बैंक की स्वायत्तता के अतिक्रमण का हवाला  देते हुए जोरदार विवाद खड़ा किया था।
