If they had invited me, I would have definitely attended the marriage. (यदि वे मुझे बुलाते तो मैं शादी में जरूर जाता।)
अगर वो बुलाते तब मैं जाता पर उन्होंने बुलाया नहीं और इसलिए मैं नहीं गया। इसलिए अब उस बात को बदलना असंभव है। यह घटना past की है।
ऊपर वाले वाक्य में 'If Clause' में 'If Subject Had ....' के स्थान पर 'Had Subject ....' का भी प्रयोग किया जाता है । दोनो का अर्थ समान होता है ।

ऐसे वाक्यों में If Past Perfect Tense का प्रयोग 'If Clause' में और ..Would have Verb (3rd Form) का प्रयोग मुख्य Clause में होता है ।

The 3rd conditional sentence अतीत की कोई असत्य या काल्पनिक conditional घटना को कहा जाता है। 3rd conditional sentence, अतीत की घटना का उल्लेख करती है जबकि first and second conditional sentences भविष्य में होने वाली real or unreal घटनाओं के विषय में बताते है। 3rd conditional में भी घटना असंभव है क्योंकि वे या तो पहले से घटित हो चुकी है या हो सकती है, लेकिन अब नहीं होंगी। इन वाक्यों में ऐसे अतीत की कल्पना की जाती है जो सच से बिलकुल विपरीत हो।
