Structure of sentences
Positive sentence: Subject would have V³ Obj.
I would have eaten. (मैं खा चुका होता।)
They would have played football. (वे फुटबॉल खेल चुके होते।)
Negative sentence: Subject would not have V³ Obj.
We would not have gone there. (हम वहां नहीं गए होते।)
I would not have participated in that game. (मैंने उस खेल में भाग नहीं लिया होता।)
Interrogative sentence: Would subject (not) have V³ Obj.

हम would have का प्रयॊग परिणाम की कल्पना करने के लिए करते हैं जो भूतकाल में अलग हो सकता था।

If we had arrived earlier, we would have caught our flight. (अगर हम पहले पहुँच गए होते, हम अपनी उड़ान पकड़ चुके होते।)
दिए गए वाक्य का परिणाम अलग हो सकता था अगर कार्य को सही समय पर किया जाता। अतः ऐसी घटना जिसमें परिणाम को बदला जा सकता था, उसे व्यक्त करने के लिए would have का प्रयॊग करते हैं। जैसे -
If I had had enough money, I would have bought a car. (अगर मेरे पास पर्याप्त धन होता, मैं कार खरीद चुका होता।)
(पर मेरे पास पर्याप्त धन नहीं था, इसलिए मैंने नहीं खरीदा।)
हिंदी की जिन क्रियाओं के अंत में "चुका होता/ चुकी होती/ चुके होते/ लिया होता/ -आ होता (खाया आदि)” आये, उन क्रियाओं का अंग्रेज़ी अनुवाद करने के लिए would have का प्रयॊग होता है। सभी subjects के साथ would have का प्रयॊग हो सकता है।
