Comparative Degree Rules in English Grammar

अंग्रेजी व्याकरण में तुलनात्मक डिग्री के नियम

The comparative degree is used to compare two things or people. It helps us show which one has more or less of a quality. To form the comparative degree, we usually add -er to the end of the adjective or use the word more before the adjective.

Key Concepts:

1. For one-syllable adjectives, add -er:

- tall becomes taller (लंबा - लंबा है)

- fast becomes faster (तेज - तेज है)

2. For two-syllable adjectives ending in -y, change -y to -i and add -er:

- happy becomes happier (खुश - और खुश है)

3. For adjectives with two or more syllables, use more:

- beautiful becomes more beautiful (सुंदर - और सुंदर है)

Usage Examples:

1. My brother is taller than me.

मेरा भाई मुझसे लंबा है।

2. This book is more interesting than that one.

यह किताब उस किताब से अधिक दिलचस्प है।

Key Mistakes:

1. Using more with one-syllable adjectives: "taller" is correct, not "more tall." (लंबा - अधिक लंबा नहीं)

2. Forgetting to change -y to -i: "happier" is correct, not "happyer." (खुश - खुश नहीं)
