What is 'stative verbs' and its use in written and Spoken English

What are Stative Verbs?

Stative verbs are special verbs that describe a state or condition rather than an action. They show feelings, thoughts, senses, or relationships. Examples include "know," "believe," "love," and "seem." In English, we use stative verbs differently than action verbs.

Usage in Written and Spoken English

In both written and spoken English, stative verbs are often used in the present simple tense. For example, we say "I love chocolate" instead of "I am loving chocolate." This is because love is a state, not an action.

Examples:

1. I know the answer.

(मुझे जवाब पता है।)

2. She believes in magic.

(वह जादू में विश्वास करती है।)

3. They have a big house.

(उनके पास एक बड़ा घर है।)

Key Mistakes

A common mistake is using stative verbs in continuous forms. For example, saying "I am knowing" instead of "I know" is incorrect. Remember, stative verbs do not usually take the -ing form. Understanding this will help you speak and write more clearly in English.
